Abstract

Niamh Nic Daéid received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Trinity College, Dublin. She completed her PhD in Chemistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science at the Centre for Forensic Science at Strathclyde University. Over the past 13 years or so she has been involved in education, training and research in many aspects of forensic practice including drug analysis and drug profiling. She has published and presented over 90 research papers and conference presentations in forensic science and manages one of the largest academic-based research groups in the discipline in the UK. She also undertakes independent casework and is authorised under the Criminal Procedures (Scotland) Act as a forensic chemist. Niamh is involved with a number of ENFSI (the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes) working groups and acts as a lead assessor for the the Council for Registration of Forensic Practitioners. She is a member of the Council for the Forensic Science Society and is the current editor of Science and Justice.
