Abstract

Bob Bramley had a career with the Forensic Science Service from 1970 to 2004. From 1996 until his retirement he was the Chief Scientist. He was also Custodian of the National DNA Database from 1996 to 2006. Since his retirement he has continued as a consultant supporting the Home Office in development of the Forensic Regulator role and a national quality standard for providers of forensic science services to the criminal justice system. In the wider forensic science community, both nationally and internationally, he has lectured and published widely on quality, standards and the DNA Database. In 2003, he was awarded the Distinguished Contributor Award by the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes and in 2005 he was appointed CBE for his contribution to forensic science.
