The analogy between the eye and a camera is a false one. For the visual system, there is no fixed retinal image like a photograph. Instead, the image on the retina is in constant motion as the eyes continuously and automatically dart about gathering information in a world that is also in constant motion. The image that we perceive is a mental image, a stable configuration created by the brain.
