Abstract

For 40 years, market-oriented values have transformed the environment and tenets of social work in the U.S. (Soss, Fording and Schram, 2011). The contradiction between the profession’s social justice rhetoric and its conservative practice is starker than ever, despite the rationalisations of the profession’s “master narrative” (Reisch, 2009).
