Abstract

Aggression and violence are prominent elements of modern entertainment media, and their psychological and social effects are controversially discussed. Neurobiological research can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of links to behavioral and clinical changes after exposure to violent media content. This chapter outlines the neurobiology of human aggression and violence from a neuropsychological and clinical perspective. It discusses current biological aggression models and provides links to research on media violence and aggression. Finally, perspectives and implications for further media research are outlined.
