Abstract

Billions of people around the world regularly use social media platforms. This widespread use of social media has prompted a great deal of research in the social sciences, but relatively few studies have been performed in the field of neuroscience. This chapter comprehensively reviews each research article, published by April 2018, that related a behavioral measure obtained from social media use to a measure of brain structure or function obtained with a magnetic resonance imaging scanner. These studies capitalize on information from the new, online social world to shed light on the human brain and social behaviors.
