Abstract

Financial and business services (FABS), including accounting, law, and business consulting, are crucial for understanding the world economy. In addition to bankers, large financial transactions such as new equity, debt issuance, or mergers and acquisitions involve accountants, lawyers, and business consultants. FABS epitomize globalization, as they include some of the most globalized companies in the world, such as JPMorgan, McKinsey, and PwC. They help other companies internationalize and globalize. FABS are key agents of financialization, providing companies, governments, and other organizations with capital and financial advice. FABS are key to understanding urban development. They concentrate in cities, create financial centers, and connect them through flows of money, information, and professionals. In short, we have to understand FABS in order to understand globalization, financialization, and the map of the world.
