Abstract

This chapter discusses the role and potential of telecollaboration (having students engage in online collaboration with their peers at a distance) for language learning. After providing a definition and historical overview of the topic, the chapter examines some of the key theories that provide a foundation for this type of interaction, followed by a discussion of some of the most relevant current research that investigates telecollaboration for language learning. The chapter concludes with examples of how telecollaboration may be put into practice and a discussion of some of the practical issues involved.
