Writing is increasingly carried out through digital technologies, which has led to new types of writing and new opportunities for second language learners to communicate and learn through writing. This chapter presents an overview of the literacies skills required to create digital texts and the ways that technology-mediated writing may promote language learning. Research focusing on collaborative writing in digital settings, automatic written evaluation, and the use of corpora in second language writing are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the ways that each of these creates unique opportunities for language learning through writing.
