For elders, a term often used to refer to people over the age of 65, mobility is often framed in terms of physical movement. The acknowledgement that personal mobility may decline in later life has meant mobility for older people tends to be seen in terms of a bodily ‘deficit’, particularly within bio-medical discourses. However, recent work in the social sciences has challenged such views through highlighting the ways in which elders may engage in varying and productive forms of mobile practices as part of their engagement in familial, leisure, friendship, organizational and work networks (Cass et al.2005).
