Abstract

Time is a defining parameter of people’s mobility. As individuals we must make time in order to travel and in turn we make choices about how such travel time is consumed in the enactment of travel. In this chapter, the meaning and consumption of travel time is explored. This is done in such a way that brings the field of transport studies and the more recent field of mobilities research together. The terms ‘transport’ and ‘mobility’ will be used interchangeably within the chapter with both referring to the physical movement of an individual between different spatial locations.
