Abstract

In the arts, symbols adumbrate; they do not denote. When they adumbrate something important happens—people begin to notice. What they notice can become, and often becomes, a source of debate and deliberation . . . . In a sense, arts based research is a heuristic through which we deepen and make more complex our understanding of some aspect of the world.
