Abstract

In order to lead or manage an organization effectively, one must consider reflecting on three levels: strategic (Haberberg & Rieple 2001), tactical (Scholes & Johnson 1998) and operational (Haberberg & Rieple 2001). At the strategic level one makes specific choices based on a well-analyzed visualisation of a long-term future and focuses on broad, long-term goals. At the tactical level one works out specific projects and actions that fulfil the strategy. At the operational level one focuses on day-to-day tasks. Let us explore how these three levels can be more effectively applied during times of change. In hospitality organizations change is ubiquitous, and this chapter hopes to offer hospitality leaders with an alternative view to greater effectiveness of leading through change.
