The hotel industry is a significant and distinctive economic force within the service economies of globally developed nations and a fast-growing sector within many developing nations of the world (Olsen et al., 2008: 12). The hotel industry now plays an increasingly important role within most countries, where it is linked to economic development, growth and sector activities. Hotels through their facilities and services can make a major contribution to the total output of goods and services within a regional and national economy, where both direct and indirect contributions to GNP and GDP, employment and in some countries their ability to earn foreign currency can be observed (British Hospitality Association, 2010).
