Abstract

This chapter explores the ethical considerations needed when carrying out research in outdoor studies. Because of the diverse scope of this book, a range of people (e.g. outdoor studies students, researchers or practitioners) could be engaging with a variety of outdoor studies research areas. This chapter focuses on research that involves people and social conditions. It is split into two parts: first, we provide an introductory overview of ethical considerations from a critical perspective; second, we explore the implications of this critique and propose alternative lenses to help guide future research.
