Abstract

Attachment theory has a special place in adoption and fostering as it provides a conceptual framework for the practitioner who is grappling with major decisions about the future of vulnerable children. It offers a scaffolding for thinking about the children’s experiences, the impact of these experiences on the children’s internal expectations of parental figures and information as to how best to support both the children and the substitute parents who are charged with their care.
