Abstract

Asia represents a microcosm of the migration and development interconnections. Globally, almost 70 million, or nearly one-third, of all international migrants are from East Asia and the Pacific and South Asia. 2 Migration patterns reflect the wide income and demographic disparities within the region and with other parts of the world. While Asia is a major source of skilled migrants to advanced countries, the majority of Asian migrants tend to be low-skilled. In addition, all migrants contribute to the economic development within Asia as well.
