Abstract

Tom Rice is a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Exeter. He specializes in researching auditory culture. He has written numerous articles and book chapters and in 2013 published an ethnographic monograph on listening practices in the hospital setting entitled Hearing and the Hospital: Sound, Listening, Knowledge and Experience (Sean Kingston Publishing). As well as writing and teaching on sound, Rice has produced audio pieces including The Art of Water Music, a documentary for BBC Radio 4 on the relationship between music and water, and Govindpuri Sound, a programme for the BBC World Service about the sound environment of a Delhi slum.
