Abstract

With the significant role that web-based interfaces and information play in daily life, it is essential that the Web be fully accessible and usable for people with disabilities. This chapter provides a framework for understanding technology accessibility, the challenges that are experienced by blind individuals as they use the Web and an overview of the international laws and policies that intersect with this topic. We explore the areas of life where inaccessibility has a significant exclusionary impact, and we provide examples and suggestions for making the Web more accessible and usable for blind users.
