Abstract

Budapest is a city known for its spas, which take advantage of its numerous thermal springs. This spa heritage is conjured up for many by the glorious architectural exuberance of the neo-baroque Széchenyi Baths and the Seccession-style Gellért Hotel and Baths, as well as Turkish examples such as the Rudás and Király baths, dating back to the time of the Ottoman occupation. Yet it has a far older story to tell, which reaches back to the Stone Age.
