Abstract

Ethics is the domain of right conduct. It is a normative constraint and the binding ought-to-be. It is the moral constitution which cannot be bought and sold like indulgences at the margin. This chapter is about good and evil, deontology and consequentialism, virtue and vice, duty and expediency, equity and efficiency, procedure and endstate. The rules can be broken. The violators can experience social and psychological sanctions. Broken or not, they are still the rules. They are the guidelines and the map. We can depart from the path but we do so at our peril.
