Abstract

Social networking sites (SNS) began to emerge in the last decade of the 20th century and have since proliferated in range and application. SNS typically combine features of what boyd and Ellison (2007) define as offering participants a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, an articulated list of other members with whom the participants share an interest, and the ability to traverse the list of connections made by themselves and others within the system.
