Abstract

This chapter addresses cinema’s role in negotiating the catastrophe of climate change to come—a catastrophe we ignore at our peril. My essay focuses on climate dilemmas facing humans as a species as they are imaged on film. Central is attention to the psychological impact of pending climate disaster that is rarely dealt with; the cultural work such film fantasies perform with regard to gender and race will also be a main focus, along with the politics of climate change more generally.
