This introductory chapter aims to depict the state of our knowledge in the field of technological innovation in government by providing an overview of the chapters included in the Handbook. This introduction will also highlight the contributions of the chapters to the five main themes of this Handbook, namely, (i) theories of IT innovations in government, (ii) emerging technologies and their applications in government, (iii) technology-enabled cross-boundary collaboration and governance, (iv) advancement of democratic accountability and public values, and (v) advancement of public service through technological innovation. These themes mirror the organization of chapters in the Table of Contents.
