Abstract

Corpora (sing. corpus) are collections of naturally occurring (electronic) texts that are compiled according to specific design principles. Corpora are constructed either to reflect a language in general terms in all its diversity and aspects of use, or one of its specific sub-domains, such as Business English, English for Academic Purposes, Learner English, the language of blogs, or service encounters. The former type of corpus is usually referred to as a general corpus, and the latter as a specialised one.
