Abstract

In this overview of the role of pragmatic theory and pragmatic concepts in translation and interpreting, the term translation will be used as the superordinate term referring to the translation of written texts and interpreting, that is, the translation of speech. Everything outlined in relation to translation thus pertains to the products and processes of both translation and interpreting. Differences in the relevance and applicability of individual pragmatic concepts between translation and interpreting will be made explicit.
