Abstract

This chapter aims to contribute to the study of film sets, props, and costumes, an area to which film studies has given valuable, yet limited, attention. In the growing area of cult film studies, while scholars may scrutinize specific objects and backdrops within the frame, surveying the place and mechanics of sets, props, and costumes across various fan film viewing and engagement practices could advance our understanding of film production methods, fan theory, and broadly of how micro-cultures interact with media texts. This chapter aims to proffer key ways in which these film-production objects can function to broker relationships between movie productions and fan experiences.
