Abstract

Some of the most ardent and long-lived movie cults are those that take as their objects musical films. The cult surrounding The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) – perhaps the ne plus ultra of cult films, period – is about as devout as cults get; other noteworthy musicals with devoted cult followings include The Wizard of Oz (1939), Singin’ in the Rain (1952), and Myra Breckinridge (1970), to name just a few.
