Abstract

Throughout the past decade, the prevalence of suicide fatalities among special operators and general military populations has exceeded rates observed during the 1900s, suggesting a modern epidemic of soldiers taking their own lives (Nock et al., 2013). Suicide rates among military service members have historically been lower than those witnessed amongst their civilian counterparts. However, between 2005 and 2008, suicide fatalities within the Army nearly doubled and surpassed the civilian population rates for the first time in history (Black, Gallaway, Bell, & Ritchie, 2011).
