Abstract

For the past 10 years, I have worked as the Clinical Director of the Ankur Counseling Center in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Ankur Counseling Center is a therapeutic treatment center for the Nepal Youth Foundation – NYF. Created in 1990, by Olga Murray, then a lawyer in the California Supreme Court, NYF serves children ages two to 17 who are orphaned, neglected, traumatized, abandoned, and those suffering severe attachment issues. Most of these children are malnourished and/or HIV infected. They have little or no experience of formal education. All come from very poor economic backgrounds.
