Abstract

This chapter will begin by briefly explaining who the Kurds are, along with their geography, history, and contemporary status. This is followed by a discussion of the Kurds’ minority status and why most Kurds do not like being labeled a “minority.” Their preference notwithstanding, the Kurds remain a minority in every state in which they reside, and as such they face several challenges – including a few that are unique to the Middle East.
