Abstract

Golden ages are perceived only in retrospect and in 2020 most current journalistic discourse seems to be one of decline, with print journalists in particular conscious both of the struggles of their sector and a loss of control over narratives to social media. Today's is certainly a complex world compared to its predecessor, but today's sports media offers an enormous range of live action, better-informed and more nuanced analysis of the economics and politics of sport and some exceptional long-form journalism offered through the medium of television documentaries. Is it possible that future ages will see our own as Golden?
