Abstract

Probably, satisfactory analyses of the preserial works of Stravinsky will, when they finally appear, employ theories that graft nontonal referential collections and unique Stravinskian transformation rules into a wildly Schenkerian-derived kind of theory of pc set “prolongation” in various pitch-structural and rhythmic-structural “levels.” 1
