Abstract

It would be difficult to overestimate the importance of the UN for the rise of sustainable development (SD) as a policy goal. It was the cradle of the term, if not actually of the concept in its modern form, and through the Sustainable Development Goals it continues to be a driving force in global efforts to translate this idea into policy.
