Abstract

People experiencing trolling and harassment have limited governance tools available to them (Crawford & Gillespie 2014; Sanfilippo et al. 2017: 1809). However, there are also unofficial or informal strategies for combatting trolling and harassment (Jane 2016). This chapter focuses on discourses surrounding tools to combat trolling and harassment on Twitter, drawing on and extending previous work on discursive tactics against harassment in feminist blogs (Shaw 2013) and on the use of screenshots in response to harassment on dating apps and sites (Shaw 2016), as well as other forms of ‘feminist digilantism’ (Jane 2016).
