Abstract

With over a billion people in the world estimated to experience a significant disability, people with disabilities represent an increasingly activated, creative, forceful and diverse group of media activists. Because of their unique relationships with social life, technology and media, people with disabilities constitute an extremely interesting and significant new domain of activism, especially when it comes to emergent media forms, formats, cultures of use and politics. In this chapter, we provide an overview and introduction to disability and media activism.
