Abstract

How can collective mapping practices help artists and social movements to build broader communal and popular collaboration, to produce autonomous knowledge? Subverted by use, cartography as a purely specialized, academic and scientific activity, turned solely inwards towards its own discipline’s issues and problems, has been radically changed in the last decades through the actions of artist-activists who have dedicated themselves to mapping out conflicts, power networks and invisible geographies. Maps became potential tools of resistance and free distribution of images, methodologies, critical reflections and concepts.
