Abstract

The rise of any field of learning is often in response to a real problem in society. Medicine evolved to improve human health and speed recovery from ailments. Geography grew in importance as the scope of the human experience expanded. Sociology emerged with the development of civil society and the rise of attendant social problems in rapidly growing urban centers.
