On 24 November 2016, after four years of negotiations, the Colombian government and the largest rebel organization, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia–People’s Army (FARC-EP), 1 signed the “Final Accord for the Ending of the Conflict and the Building of a Stable and Lasting Peace.” 2 The Accord ends a five-decade-old conflict that by 2012 had claimed around 220,000 lives and left 25,000 disappeared, 6,000 forcibly recruited minors, 27,000 kidnapped, and 5,000,000 internally displaced persons (CNMH 2013).
