Abstract

Imagine two first-grade teachers: one in rural Texas, with 22 learners; 1 another one, in rural Zomba (Malawi), with 150 learners. 2 These two teachers are engaged in different school-wide literacy transformation efforts, both including human and material support for changes to the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and education of these teachers and their colleagues. While both are willing to explore and enact practices in these unique, university–school partnerships, they used their imagination differently to embody the practices.
