Abstract

Evidence alone is insufficient to guide educational decisions: agents must consult their values and goals in order to determine what to do and even to know what evidence is relevant. This chapter outlines a procedure for combining values and evidence to make decisions, and illustrates it by considering school financing, charter schools, and proficiency grouping in classrooms.
