The artisan and service castes which figure at the lower levels in the caste hierarchy, are people who produce the goods and services needed daily by society. This chapter focuses mainly on the status of the traditional occupations of OBCs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and presents a macro perspective of the artisanal occupational economy in India with focus on the undivided Andhra Pradesh. The study is descriptive and uses secondary data for analysis of the issues of the communities.
