Abstract

As the interest in speculative arts and science fiction on the continent continues to grow, there is a discernible grappling with the influence and interruption of global forms – including that of Afrofuturism – which bifurcates the practice and the experience of African speculative imaginaries. In an attempt to provide a methodological form for addressing these nuanced positionalities, this chapter makes use of the three main categorical distinctions used by the Waste Hierarchy – reduce, reuse and recycle.
