Abstract

This chapter considers the policy challenges facing the state in legal response to older family members. For too many older people, old age is marked by disadvantage, poverty and exclusion. Yet many older people have fulfilling old ages, playing an important role in society and in the family lives. The legal issues raised by older family members have not received adequate attention. 1 However, there is growing recognition that the issue needs more consideration, especially given the notable changes in age demographics around the world.
