Abstract

This chapter attempts to undertake a historical trajectory of the women’s movement since the late 1970s: (1) a brief narration of the diversity of the issues that women’s groups have raised; (2) the role that the legal sphere has played in transforming women’s lives; and (3) describing creative articulation of resistance. While changes in issues are identified continuously, the chapter foregrounds the complexity of the various strategies in activism. The chapter concludes by marking the interconnectedness between women’s activism and women’s/gender studies.
