Abstract

Narasimha, the man-lion avatar of Vishnu, and Ganeśa, the elephant-headed son of Śiva, are two of the best-known and most familiar figures of Hindu mythology. In outlining some of the main themes associated with these figures, this paper aims to stimulate discussion about an enigmatic border-land where human and animal creatures interact with each other and talk about ultimate meaning and value becomes possible.
