Abstract

Over the past 40 years, the field of health psychology has expanded across a range of domains such as clinical health psychology (Sandhu & Patel, 2013; Smith, Williams, & Ruiz, 2016), rehabilitation psychology (Brenner, 2019), and occupational health psychology (Graham, Howard, & Dougall, 2012). Concomitant with the growth of health psychology as a field of practice has been the growth of the discipline within academic psychology (Kaplan, 2009). Empirical research in the field examining the biological, psychological, and social aspects of health and illness have flourished, and the journal Health Psychology remains one of the top journals for empirical research in the field with a five-year impact factor of over 4.4 (American Psychological Association: APA, 2020).
