Abstract

This concluding chapter draws out dominant themes from the collection of chapters in the Handbook, reflecting on them as well as the progress that has been made in the field of ageing with disability research over the last 40 years. It notes that the small body of international scholars in this field have made substantial contributions but their work has yet to be widely seen as either meeting an urgent need or crucial to supporting a good old age for people ageing with disability. Struggles related to gaining attention range from limited funding for research to ongoing negative assumptions about disability and persons with disabilities. Despite this, authors in the Handbook are identified as raising important issues, pushing the boundaries of current knowledge and leading the field forward.
