Abstract

The chapter surveys the Lebanese print media from its inception during the Nahda period in the late 19th century to its present day. The chapter also describes the relevant legal framework that regulates the industry and pinpoints some of the obstacles facing journalists today on that front. Finally, the chapter also assesses the role and impact of the Lebanese print media in hyper-pluralistic Lebanon and explores to what extent this has been impacted by the dire financial crisis gripping the Lebanese state and in particular its media.
