Abstract

While many employers have accepted the efficacy and desirable outcomes of using inclusive principles in structuring and managing the workplace, not all leaders are self-aware or have internalized the habits of thoughtful interaction with others that make truly inclusive leadership flow freely throughout an organization. The concept of emotional intelligence offers a window into the mindset to which employers and business leaders might aspire as they seek to increase inclusive interactions between managers and workers, as well as between managers and between workers. Inclusivity and respect for diversity should be embraced in all areas of the working environment. Daniel Goleman, a leader in the field of emotional intelligence, promotes the idea that there are key aspects of this mindset that can be developed in organizational leaders and even in children to improve collaborative working, learning and social environments.
